Domain name governance & premium pricing
Any individual or organisation can register a .com or .co.uk domain name on a first-come first-served basis, subject to terms that can be found at the individual country registrars and at ICANN www.icann.org, the corporation responsible for managing the internet domain name system. Edinburgh TIC Ltd specialises in trading Edinburgh-related generic and geographic domain names. We do not trade company names or trademarked names.
It is generally accepted that .com domains are the most memorable and hence the most widely registered and highly valued domain names worldwide. In the UK it is also common for organisations to choose .co.uk domain names, and these are usually priced lower than the equivalent .com domains.
Like personalised car registration plates, premium domain names are priced according to desirability and market conditions, so prices may fluctuate from time to time. The price that you will pay is the price advertised at the time when you first contact us to register interest, provided that you complete your purchase within three months of the first contact date.
Non-profit organisations & charities
If you are registering a domain name on behalf of a non-profit organisation or charity, we strongly recommend that you find a suitable .org or .org.uk domain name, as these are not normally used by commercial organisations and therefore can be purchased at a much lower cost than the premium domain names listed above. We do not sell .org and .org.uk domain names for profit, as we consider that to be unethical.
